Recently I had the pleasure of interviewing British Indian pornstar Sahara Knite, the exotic beauty you should remember from her time on Game of Thrones. Or know her as a porn star, masseuse and webcam model. Keep reading to find out all the juicy details about this amazing Indian pornstar.

Sahara Knite was born in Lancashire to Indian parents in 1975 (age 44 at the time of this interview). Growing up, Sahara lived in a traditional family with her parents being strict Muslims.
During our interview, I asked Sahara Knite what it was like for her growing up in a strict home. We discussed the challenges of having religious parents who think casual sex and porn is wrong as well as what it’s like to be an Indian pornstar.
Can you hide porn?
I started in 2004, before the internet you could get away with hiding it. But now you can’t as it’s more than just movies on VHS. You have to ask yourself some hard questions if you want to go into the Adult Industry. Are you happy to deal with the consequences of your family finding out? Especially for women, I’m not sure how Hindu parents would react but Muslim parents view it as bringing shame on the family.
Was it difficult deciding to pursue a porn career as an Indian pornstar?
For most teenagers growing up in any religion, it’s hard. Did I rebel? No, I just made a choice but I was 28. I didn’t give the family much thought.
Do your family know that you do porn? How did they react?
They knew I was doing porn and knew I stopped. I’m not sure if they know I’ve started again now! They didn’t react very well and disapproved of it. It’s easier for guys (who go into porn) as some families do come around to it whereas they don’t really accept it as much for girls. They think it’s shameful, we don’t really talk.
Do you identify as a Muslim now?
I’m non practising, I identify as Muslim last and British, then Indian first.
How did you break away from your family?
I left home at 18 to go to the University of Southampton, my parents were strict but all for education and equality with boys and girls. I went to the furthest university I could as I wanted to leave. If I had gone to a closer university, my parents would have wanted me to stay at home!
How did you find life at home vs being at Uni?
It can be quite claustrophobic as you can’t go out and see your friends or dress how you want to. It was hard to settle into (Uni), it was a whole new thing for me being away from home in student accommodation. You do what someone else wants for the first 18 years of your life and then you’re on your own. I had the freedom to do and wear what I wanted, without being asked why I was doing it.
Did you ever wear the hijab?
Not growing up, my parents didn’t expect me to wear it at school but if I went out socially they did. In my mid 20s I decided to meet more Muslim people when I was living in North London. I was in town and stopped by one of the stalls, wearing a t-shirt and jeans and was told to cover up by the guy who owned it. Then he directed me to a place to meet other Muslim women who wore the hijab too. I started to wear a scarf and became more religious.
How did your parents react to you wearing the hijab?
My parents were ecstastic as I became more religious. I did that for about a year but then began to question it as it didn’t quite feel right. A lot of women seem to wear it as an outward sign of their religion but don’t actually follow it. The girls I knew would wear a scarf but still smoke, drink and have boyfriends… I questioned why would you put on an outward show of wearing a hijab if you don’t follow the religion? Faith is a personal thing, what you wear doesn’t make you a better Muslim.
Having pornstars wear the hijab and conservative clothes is becoming more popular in porn, what do you think of it? Is it just a fetish for the taboo?
It’s really weird for me around fetishes. I don’t really see it as a fetishisation, is it a fetish if people search for a particular background? I think people just like what they like, whether it’s BBW, black or Muslim women. The hijab aspect is part of a taboo thing where Muslim women are usually covered up. People are curious to see what’s underneath. All porn is kind of a fetish.
Do you think it’s offensive for porn stars to wear it?
If you’re Muslim or Christian, Catholic or Jewish, it’s all no sex before marriage. No adultery, fornication, sex is strictly for marriage only. [Wearing the hijab in porn] it’s a play on the hijab. You’re insecure in your religion if you’re offended by that. If you’re 100% concrete in what you believe in, it wouldn’t affect you or shake your faith.
Do you wear the hijab or traditional dress for work?
The hijab is just a covering. It comes across as taboo so people want to see it more. People look for it and ask you for it, even non-Muslim/Indian girls wear it. I didn’t use to do it but then I thought why not, it’s just fun.

Do you think there’s a demand for more in Indian pornstar category?
More people are looking for diversity of performers, want to see more women of colour. India is a booming economy and growing population, they’ve banned a lot of porn sites but the Indian men want to see Indian women. People like to see like for like, black women fucked by a white guy or an Indian pornstar shooting with other Indian men. Those [Indian men] who do it often won’t show their face. You have to sit down and ask yourself questions about why you want to get into it and are you prepared for your family to find out.
Sahara Knite’s career as an Indian pornstar
Before going into porn, Sahara Knite completed a degree in Fashion Design and Development. For 7 years after graduation she worked in retail, both in design and manufacturing and the supplier field. After a brief stint in telephone sales and working in a pub, she continued to work in retail in London.
Sahara first got into the Adult Industry when she wanted to make some extra cash to pay the bills. She found solo work advertised in the newspaper while at the train station.
What was your first experience of porn like?
We met for a coffee to talk it through as he wanted to make sure I was 100% sure. It was a solo photo shoot, my experiences have always been good.
Have you ever had any bad experiences?
I was older when I was working in LA, the other girls were younger so maybe I had more life experience and got lucky. I’ve listened to people who have had bad experiences but I’ve never had any problems. Some guys can be a bit rough but everybody is professional.
Sahara Knite – a dominatrix
How did you get into being a dominatrix?
I used to shoot in submissive roles but as I’ve got older I realised I wasn’t really that submissive! One time when I had a booking request for ball busting and strap on’s, I found that I enjoyed it and it went from there.
Why do you think men like Full Power Exchange?
Some men have high powered jobs with a lot of stress so come and see a Mistress so that the power is taken away from them. They put the decision making into someone else’s hands which is freeing for them during that time together. The power exchange concept can be liberating.
You also offer non competitive session wrestling, would you go competitive?
I don’t want to be battered! Some guys get off on wrestling with much smaller women. I’ll be more competitive in public but not in private in case something goes wrong. It’s meant to be fun for everybody, guys shouldn’t want to hurt me!
What are you working on most now?
After having some time away from it [the porn industry], I decided to come back into it. People are shooting a lot more of their own content now rather than appearing for companies. There aren’t as many companies around as when I started out, so it’s good for people to shoot their own content. I film predominantly for my own site now. It doesn’t always make you money right away in the short term but it will make residual money throughout the years to come.
How do you enjoy porn shoots? Do you have to fancy the guys?
Some shoots you enjoy, I don’t find all the guys attractive but if there’s good chemistry the shoot can be great. Each shoot is unique, you might see a photo of someone beforehand but you don’t usually meet until the day.
Do people have a type they like to work with?
I don’t have a type. If you restrict yourself to only working with certain people then you won’t get many bookings. But shooting your own content is different to filming for companies, then you can choose who you work with more selectively. I think a good performer works with a variety of other performers.
Game of Thrones
How did you get cast for GOT?
In August 2010, I received an email from the casting agency to say they were working on the casting of a series for American television for HBO called Game of Thrones and that there was a character in it called Armeca who worked in a brothel. They had attached a script and wanted to ask if I would be interested in auditioning. They also wrote that I would be asked to enact the scene fully clothed on tape and that material would be sent to the HBO producers.
How did your audition go?
I called up the agency and spoke to the casting associate for the project who explained everything in detail. We arranged for me to go to an audition the following week. I had to act out the scene from a few angles just by myself. This was all filmed. About 2 weeks later I got a call back saying I had got the role of Armeca. I was really excited as this was my 1st venture into mainstream TV – all be it playing a prostitute!
Where did you rehearse?
I had to fly Belfast to rehearse the scene with the actress who would be playing Ros. I also got to meet with the writers David and Dan who ran through the scene with us and told us how they saw the scene playing out. We ran through positions that would look good/work well on camera. At the same I also met with the wardrobe, hair and makeup department. I was going to have long hair in the scene and they had to check and fit the hair piece I would be wearing.
What happened during the shoot?
The first scene I was in with Ros was shot in Malta. On the day I arrived I went the location first and into hair and makeup to get my hair dyed to match the hair piece for the scene the following day. On the morning of the shoot it was an early pick up to be taken to the set straight into hair and makeup. I had my own trailer to chill out it when we weren’t filming. We had a dry run through the scene fully clothed to check camera angles and positioning.
How did you film the nude scene?
When they started filming the actual scene it was a closed set as there was nudity involved. If you weren’t required on set you had to leave. A closed set still involved over 15 people, from assistant producers, producers and the runners! (During porn shoots, there’s always a lot less people around!) It was a very long and hot day. Nearly 12 hours from getting picked up in the morning to getting back to the hotel in the evening. The actual scene when it was aired was less than 5 minutes in duration but there was a lot of work behind it.
How different was your experience of filming for Season 2?
I flew to Belfast for 2 days of filming. It was another long 2 days of shooting, similar to the first scene I was in. Two of the scenes were shot in daylight on day 1 and then there was a night shoot the following day.
Did you get cold on set being naked all the time?
It was a bitterly cold day and night on set as it was windy and raining on both days! In between setup and takes we all huddled in front of the blow heaters. I wasn’t wearing very much!
How did you enjoy your time in Game of Thrones and who did you meet?
I had a fantastic time. Everyone was great. People think that you get to meet lots of famous people and party with them. But that’s not really the case! You meet the people who are immediately involved in the scene you are in and the extras. I did meet Petyr Baelish (played by Aidan Gillen), Ros (played by Esme Bianco), Bronn (played by Jerome Flynn) and the Hound (played by Sandor Clegane). But we didn’t get to chat as most people read a book or went back to their trailer in-between scenes.

Would you ever date a client?
I always draw a line with clients, I’ve seen it happen with girls who see their clients as boyfriends and it becomes messy. I don’t want to date someone who performs in the industry and don’t expect anyone to accept me being non monogamous.
Do you think your job can get in the way of dating?
It isn’t a matter of cheating but I don’t feel comfortable fucking other people when I’m in a relationship. If you love someone, it shouldn’t matter what you both do for work. You just need to know what you’re happy with. Right now I’m happy being single.
What’s your best advice for a singleton?
You’ve got to know what you want for yourself. When relationships end, you need to look at what went wrong. Both at yourself and them, because a relationship takes two people. The more you know what you’re looking for the better, you know what you will or won’t accept. Learn to love your own company.
Outside of her Adult Industry work, Indian pornstar Sahara Knite likes going to the gym and keeps fit through weight lifting and gymnastics. In keeping with her healthy lifestyle, Sahara has been a committed vegetarian since the age of 12 and doesn’t drink. Although she did confess to having enjoyed Peach Schnapps and Sambuca in the past!
